Obituary of Glenn L. Baker
Glenn Baker, 73, of Magnolia, lovingly known as the eloquent speaker, died on Friday July, 27, 2018 at Jefferson Hospital-Stratford. He was born in Newport on June 21, 1945 to the late Gonzalles and Mary Corley-Baker.
He was married to Kim Baker on February 14, 1993 and from this union they were blessed with two sons, Glenn and Jeremiah Baker.
Glenn graduated from Bridgeton Senior High School in June of 1963 and furthered his education at Allen University in Columbia, SC where he graduated in 1967. He then attended Howard University where he majored in Business Management.
Glenn was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1968-1970 and was discharged honorably. He then went on to start his career with the Department of Labor where from he retired after 32 years of service.
Glenn attended the First Nazarene Baptist Church in Camden for over 25 years where he was a very active member and served as a trustee.
He was an avid writer and poet and he received many awards and honors from groups such as Veterans' Voices and the Catholic War Veterans of Washington, DC. Glenn enjoyed telling jokes and you could always count on him to send you texts and emails of scriptures from the bible daily. One of his favorite scriptures was Jeremiah 17:14.
In addition to his wife and sons, he leaves to cherish his memory; his siblings, Lewis Baker (Ann) of Denver, CO, Loretta Baker-Rolle of Bridgeton, Willard Baker (Louise) of Millville, Alice Baker of Fairfield Twp., Garry Baker (Juanita) of Bridgeton, Thomas Baker (Judy) of Millville and David Baker (Joyce) of Deerfield Twp.; a sister-in-law, Wilma Hynes of Lawnside; three aunts, Hattie Baker of Atlanta, GA, Lillian Corley of Camden and Elizabeth Corley-DeValle of Bridgeton; two great aunts, Edna Bush of Augusta, GA and Frances Rouhlac of Akron, OH; a special friend of the family, MyEvelyn Paul of Williamstown and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gonzalles Baker.
Funeral services will be held at Union Baptist Temple, 30 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, Bridgeton on Saturday, August 4th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Gouldtown Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
