Obituary of Robert I. Opperman

Robert I. Opperman, Sr., age 90, of Hopewell Township died Friday, July 6, 2012 at Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Township where he had been a resident for seven years following several years of declining health. Born in Bridgeton on May 20, 1922, he was the son of the late Ivan Opperman and Elizabeth Sayres Opperman and the husband of the late Lena Young Opperman. A Hopewell Township resident since 1967 he had previously lived in Bridgeton. A United States Army veteran, he had served his country in the Air Corps in both the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters during World War Two. Mr. Opperman had been employed with the former Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton for several years until its closing. He was an avid fisherman and bowler. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon L. Meehan of Hopewell Township; two sons, Robert I. Opperman, Jr. of Bridgeton and Keith W. Opperman of Millville, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township on Friday, July 13th at 10 AM. The interment will follow the services.
