Obituary of Marie Ray-Worts

“I fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7.

Marie “Granny” called by the six children she helped raise will be greatly missed. The endless void we feel can only be filled with life's loving memories cascading through the years.

On June 24, 2018 God echoed her name and Marie's spirit took flight home. Marie was born on December 22, 1925 in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Simon and Alice Watson-Anderson. She was preceded in death by; one daughter, Archie Mae Anderson; three brothers, Simon “Son” Jr., Tommy Lee Anderson and David Anderson; her husbands, AJ, Moses Ray and Corbin Worts; two grandchildren, Sgt. Thomas E. (Peanut) and Timmy Lee Young, Sr. (Teepo); two granddaughters-in-law, Delores Jacqueline Thomas-Davis and Afeni Shakur-Davis.

Marie was educated in the Sylvester School System. She joined Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Sherman Jordan. As a young woman she lived in Ashburn and later moved back to Sylvester prior to going to Belle Glade, FL where she met and married Moses Ray. She later moved to NJ prior to 1951.

She retired from Southland Foods after many years of service. Maria was a member and served on the Usher Board as President at First Baptist Church on Northville Road in Bridgeton, NJ for many years.

Marie leaves to treasure her memories; two grandsons, Rev. Tony A. Davis and his wife, Beverly of Vineland and Prophet Dr. Gust D. Davis, Jr.; two granddaughters, Evangelis Shirlene E. Davis of Millville and Marlene Kay Davis of Camden.

She also leaves to cherish her love; her sister, Patricia Anderson-Nelson and her husband Jack of GA; a brother, Jimmie Anderson of GA; a special nephew, Jake Milligan of GA and a host of great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.

Funeral services will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 90 Matthew Brown Way, Bridgeton on Saturday, June 30th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
