            James W. Garton, 73 of Upper Deerfield Township passed away at his home on Friday, May 18, 2018. 

            A lifetime Upper Deerfield Township resident, he was born in Bridgeton to the late Wilbert Garton and Ella Johnson Garton.  He was the husband of Glenna Reed Garton. 

            Before his retirement, Jim had been a Corrections Officer at the Bayside State Correctional Facility in Leesburg for over 20 years.  A member of the Friendship Finley United Methodist Church, he had served for many years as the church’s Cemetery Board president and was active in the operation and care of the cemetery.

            He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Brearley Lodge # 2, F & A M in Bridgeton. 

            In addition to his wife Glenna, he is survived by his two daughters, Stacey Miller (Adam) of Daretown and Judy Brock (Clip) of Greenville, NC; a brother, Jeff Garton of Upper Deerfield Twp.; three sisters, Joyce Laskey of SC, Joan Lyons of DE  and Janet Cairleglio of Washington, DC and 8 grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a brother, John Garton.

            Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Thursday, May 24th at 11 AM.  Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 to 11 AM prior to the services.  Interment will take place at Friendship Finley U.M. Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in Jim’s memory be made to the Friendship Finley U.M.
