Obituary of Rev. Dr. Don "Raymond" Chappell

Rev. Dr. Don “Raymond” Chappell, 68 of Bridgeton passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at his home following a brief illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY to the the late Henry Johnson and Hattie Wright, he was the husband of Merisia McKay. Raymond was raised in Valdosta, GA but moved to Newark in the 1960's and later to Pleasantville. He had lived in Bridgeton for the past 20 years.

Raymond was the pastor of Beth-El Ministries in Bridgeton for 15 years. He had also formerly been a pastor at Graves Temple Church of God in Christ in Pleasantville where he was ordained in the 1980's. Raymond had retired from the Internal Revenue Service and had taught at the Jameson School of Ministries in Philadelphia. In his free time, he loved to watch and listen to sports.

He is survived by; his wife, Merisia McKay of Bridgeton; two children, Ramon Chappell of Parsipany and Quadera Chappell-Semica of Newark; two sisters, Deborah James and her husband, Michael of Pleasantville and Diana Hughes and her husband, Jeff of Mays Landing; his brother, Benjamin Graves, Jr. of Egg Harbor Twp.; his adoptive mother, Esther Graves of Pleasantville; his step-children, Darnel Joseph of NY, Tatisha McKay of Kearney, Kadeem McKay of NY, Kamal Lyons of Bridgeton and DeVontae Lyons of Bridgeton and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by; two sisters, a brother and his adoptive father, Benjamin F. Graves, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at the Salvation Army Center For Worship And Service, 29 West Commerce Street, Bridgeton on Friday, April 27th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at the Cumberland County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
