Obituary of Serlelar "Ovedia" O. Johnson
Serlelar Ovedia Johnson, 80, of Norma passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at her home under the care of hospice and her family following an extended illness.
Born in Florida to the late Henry McCree and Evelene Council McCree, she was the wife of the late Menzo Johnson. Ovedia had been a resident of Norma for the past 53 years and had moved from Florida to Vineland in her early 20's.
She had been previously employed at several blueberry farms in the Hammonton area where she had worked as a supervisor, farm laborer, cook and in the transportation department. She was a member of Norma Mennonite Church in Norma. In her free time, Ovedia enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, barbecuing and sewing. She was described by her family as a great cook.
She is survived by; eight children, Charlotte Russell of Philadelphia, Elbert Johnson and his wife, Yvette of Norma, Robert Johnson and his wife, Norma of Vineland, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Glenn and her husband, Willie of Millville, Wanda Johnson of Atlantic City, Michael Johnson of Norma, Leanetta Johnson of Vineland and Teresa Johnson of Vineland; 27 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren and a host of other family members. Besides her husband, Menzo, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at the Norma Mennonite Church,173 Almond Rd., Norma on Friday, April 13th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Twp.
