Obituary of Mary Linda Hitchner

            Mary Linda “Libby” Hitchner, 84, of Newport passed away at her home on Monday, March 26, 2018 under the care of her family and hospice. 

            The daughter of the late Newlin Pettit and Mertie Messeck Pettit, she was the wife of the late Joseph C. Hitchner, Sr. and had been a Newport resident for 43 years.  She had lived in Fairton prior to that.

            Libby had been employed as a waitress for most of her working life.  Her work along with her special personality made her many friends through the years who became like family to her.  She had been employed at the restaurant at Higbee’s Marina in Fortescue many years and also at the Flight Line Restaurant at Millville Airport. 

            She attended Fairton Presbyterian Church.

            Surviving are her daughters, Linda M. Dix of Hopewell Twp. and Carolyn H. Williams of Newport; her sons, Joseph C. Hitchner, Jr. of FL, Ronald W. Hitchner of TX and David W. Hitchner of Fairton; her two sisters, Elaine Middleton of Fairton and Patsy Morris of Millville; her brother, Aaron Pettit of Alloway, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  She was also predeceased by her son, Claude P. Hitchner and her brothers, Newlin and Albert Pettit. 

            Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Saturday, March 31st at 11 AM.  Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 to 11 AM prior to the services.  Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedarville.  Written condolences can be sent to the family at www.padgettfuneralhomes.com.
