Obituary of Nehemiah Grant

Nehemiah Grant, 82, of Pittsgrove Twp. died unexpectedly in a house fire at his home on Sunday, February 11, 2018.

Born in Charleston, SC to the late Samuel Grant and Julia Simmons Grant, he was the husband of Matilda Alexander Grant. In 1947, Nehemiah came to the Dividing Creek area with his family where he was raised. He had been a resident of Pittsgrove Twp. for the past 40 years.

Prior to his retirement in 2002, he had been employed by R&T Castellini for over 40 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob in Bridgeton. In his free time, Nehemiah enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending church.

He is survived by; his wife of over 40 years, Matilda Grant of Pittsgrove Twp.; two children, Theresa L. Gould and her husband, Claude of Fairfield Twp. and Nehemiah Grant and his wife, Dianna of Millville; two brothers, Samuel Grant and James Grant of Boston; four sisters, Mary Lane of Vineland, Phoebe Riley of Bridgeton, Vera Tasker of Vineland and Sophie Chapman of Millville; five grandchildren, Claude, Shayla, Tiarra, Keyona and Nathiah; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Alexander of Whitesboro and and Rebecca Harris of Millville; a brother-in-law, Clarence Alexander of Salem; a god daughter, Shereen Green and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by; a brother, Joseph Grant and a sister, Eartha Lee Grant.

Funeral Services will be held at the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, 188 South East Avenue, Bridgeton on Thursday, February 22nd at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Twp.
