Obituary of Mervin W. Scythes
Mervin W. Scythes, Sr., 80, of Fairton died Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Twp.
A lifetime Fairton resident, he was the husband of Virginia Kwasnicki Scythes and the son of the late Paul C. Scythes, Sr. and Myrtle Husted Scythes.
Before his retirement, Mervin had owned and operated Capital Printing in Vineland. Prior to that he had worked at the former Price Label Company in Bridgeton.
A graduate of the Bridgeton High School Class of 1956, he was an avid equestrian and enjoyed horseback riding, playing cards, watching westerns and gardening.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by 12 children, Rosalie Pierce, Ronald Scythes, Mervin Scythes, Jr., Kenneth Kwasnicki, Linda Scythes, Patricia Scythes, William Scythes, Lisa Duffield, Debbie Scythes, Michael Scythes, Tina Hillegas and James Scythes; two sisters, Ellen Mullen of Fairton and Bonnie Hudson of FL, 26 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and his cat, Mickey. He was predeceased by four sisters, Blanche Woodward, Doris Watson, Earlene Brooks and Barbara Scythes and four brothers, William, Leslie, Paul, Jr. and Franklyn Scythes.
Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Tuesday, January 16th at 11 AM. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 to 11 AM prior to the services. Written condolences can be sent to the family at www.padgettfuneralhomes.com
