John R. Pettit, 94, of Fortescue died on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at his home under the care of hospice.
John was born in Ocean City to the late Carlton Pettit and Catherine McLaughlin Pettit. He had been a resident of Fortescue for many years.
John was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from October 26, 1942 to February 15, 1945 during WW2. His ship, The Brownson (DD 518) was sunk by Japanese aircraft during the battle of New Britain on December 26, 1943 shortly following the Pearl Harbor attack.
Prior to his retirement, John had worked as a Radar Technician and later a Technician Supervisor for Tenico, in Burlington County for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing. In his younger years, John enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by; three daughters, Regina Miller, Kathie DuBois and her husband, Bob and Murlene Smith and her husband, Lonnie; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
