Obituary of Elizabeth May Masters
~~Elizabeth M."Betty" (Saul) Masters died gently and peacefully at home on May 3, 2017 under the care of her daughter and Hospice. She had been in failing health for several months.
Born in Millville, New Jersey on June 20, 1939, Betty was the first child of the late Marion (Simpkins) and Charles H. Saul. She lived in Millville through her school years and met her first husband Nelson C. Fox, with whom she had her only child, Sherry. She began working as a teller at City National Bank in Millville. Later, after moving to Vineland in 1962, Betty worked for the State of New Jersey at The New Jersey Memorial Home as a switchboard operator and Leesburg State Prison (now Bayside State Prison) as a Payroll Clerk, and then became the first female Corrections Officer at that same institution. She retired from The Woodbine Developmental Center as an Assistant Personnel Director.
Betty moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in 2006 when her health began to fail. She loved dogs and insisted on helping anyone who had a dog in need of medical treatment. She was a member and supporter of the ASPCA .
Betty deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Being with them and watching them grow into amazing adults gave her the greatest joy of her life. She always was interested in all their new adventures. She played matchmaker and introduced her grandson Michael to his now wife Becky. They blessed and honored her with her first great-grandchild Katelyn Elizabeth. She was especially proud to be a Great Mommom.to Katie. She spent many happy days watching Katie grow and play, and loved their little conversations that always started with "Hi Great-Mommom!" Betty loved to listen to her granddaughter Melissa sing and spent many beautiful summer evenings in Ocean City and Wildwood watching her perform on the boardwalk. She and Melissa shared the same taste in food. They loved trying new and unusual dishes. Betty was looking forward to the birth of Melissa's baby daughter Eden Kailani. She was blessed to have heard Eden's heartbeat 5 weeks before her passing.
Betty loved and had a very close and special relationship with her sister and brothers. She always enjoyed spending time talking with them and getting updates on all her nieces and nephews and their families. She also kept in close contact with her cousin Helen Headley. They spoke often and enjoyed reminiscing about days past.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by two great-grandchild Angels who passed before birth, two infant sisters, her sisters-in-law, Carole Saul and Helen Saul, her nephew Robert R Saul, Jr. and her fur-babies Chubby, Lady, Winston, and Diva.
She is survived by her daughter Sherry L. (Fox) Hall and her husband Louis, two grandchildren, Michael A. Hall and his wife Becky, and Melissa A. Hall, two great granddaughters, Katelyn Elizabeth Hall and soon-to-arrive Eden Kailani Hall, and her sister Shirley Burns, all of Vineland; two brothers Charles M Saul, Sr and his wife Claudette of Jasper, Florida, and Robert R Saul, Sr and his wife Debra of New Port Richey, Florida, many nieces, nephews and cousins, along with her Grand-dogs Koda, Tia, Juno, Wagner, Sammy and Marley.
