Obituary of Fred J. Swift

Fred J. Swift, 67 of Hopewell Township and formerly of Cedarville died on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland. The son of the late Omar H. Swift and Josephine “Jodi” Vineyard Swift, he was the husband of the late Carol McPherson Swift and had been a Hopewell Township resident since 2008. Previous to that he had lived in Cedarville his entire life. Before his retirement in 2008, Fred had been employed at the Wheaton Glass Co. in Millville since he was 17 years old for 42 years. He had also tended bar at the Fairfield Inn for over 20 years. He attended Bridgeton High School and was well known for his time spent as a baseball coach with the South Cumberland Little League and Fairfield Township Little League. He was an avid outdoorsman teaching his sons and grandson to hunt, fish and trap and also was a Notre Dame Football fan. Surviving are his three sons, Fred. J. Swift, Jr. of Fairfield Twp., Paul H. Swift of Cedarville and Mark O. Swift (Holli) of Hopewell Twp.; his two grandchildren, Zachary and Gabriella; his loving companion, Carol Leiber of Hopewell Twp.; a brother, William and four sisters, Mary Lou, Eunice, Jacqueline and Jodi. He was predeceased by two brothers, Horace “Duke” and Leslie. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main Street, Cedarville on Thursday, January 12th at 12 Noon. The family requests that dress be kept casual including sports team clothing and hunting clothes. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and on Thursday morning from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services at the funeral home.
