Obituary of Evelyn L. Johnson

Evelyn L. Johnson, 98, of Upper Deerfield Twp. died on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at her home. Born in Palatine, to the late David C. Miller and Reba Hitchner Miller, she was the wife of late Clifford “Dink” Johnson. Evelyn had been a resident of Upper Deerfield since 1940. She graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1938 and received her educational credentials for substitute teaching at Glassboro State College (Rowan University). She had taught for several years in the surrounding area. Evelyn was a former member of the Willing Workers Class and the Over Fifty Club at the Deerfield Methodist Church, Deerfield Street where she had also been a member. Evelyn enjoyed reading, genealogy, and doing puzzles. She and her late husband “Dink” travelled all over North America except for Newfoundland. They also drove to Alaska and visited Hawaii, London, Paris, Rome and Mexico. Evelyn enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and attending their school sporting events and functions. She is survived by two sons, William M. Johnson and his wife, Beverly of Centerton and David C. Johnson, of Rockaway; two brothers, Don Miller of Florida and Newell Miller of Upper Pittsgrove Twp.; 6 grandchildren, Beverly Anna Davis and her husband, Chris, Rachel Evelyn Johnson, Morgan Spade and her husband, Matt, Sonny Johnson and his wife, Katie, Jessica Johnson and Elizabeth Johnson; 2 great-grandchildren, Addie Davis and Henry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford “Dink” Johnson; 4 brothers, Clair Miller, Belford Miller, David “Kip” Miller II, Glendon G. Miller, Sr. and two sisters, Altha Fisher and Bea Rambo. Memorial services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 12 Noon. A committal will take place at Deerfield Methodist Cemetery following the memorial service. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services.
