Gene E. Banks, age 59, of Bridgeton died on Saturday March 31, 2012 following a year and a half of declining health. Mr. Banks was born in Bridgeton on November 29, 1952 to the late William Banks and Bertha Pierce Banks and was the husband of Jearlean Allen Banks. He was a lifetime Bridgeton resident. A ten year veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, he had been employed with the Bridgeton Board of Education as a Custodian at the Board of Education Administration Building and the Indian Avenue and West Avenue Schools. He was also a former Corrections Officer at Bayside State Prison and a member of St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in Bridgeton. Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Nikki Banks of Virginia; two stepsons, Eric Dione Allen of Bridgeton and Kevin Khary Hunt of Millville; a sister Jeanette Oliver of Bridgeton and a brother Edward Banks of Norfolk Virginia. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Banks. Funeral Services will be held at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church, 275 Richardson Ave., Bridgeton on Thursday, April 5th at 12 Noon. Friends will be received at the church from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services. Burial will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Township. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township.
