Obituary of Hazel E. Pitts

Hazel E. Pitts, 86, of Fairfield Twp. passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland. Born in Fairfield Twp. and a lifetime township resident, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Pierce and Bessie Cuff Pierce and the wife of the late Austin C. Pitts who died in 1988. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Pitts had been employed at the Bridgeton Hospital for 35 years. She held membership and attended St. John United Methodist Church in Fordville for over 70 years and served on the church Usher Board for 65 years. She was also a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indians of New Jersey and the Alice Felts Federation. An avid traveler, she enjoyed trips to destinations including Miami, Hawaii, New Orleans and the Music Festival in Branson, MO. She also enjoyed music, crocheting and feeding the birds and especially loved her family. Surviving are her five children, Marla Pitts-Pietrowski of Glassboro, Austin David Pitts and wife Myra of Fairfield Twp., Paul M. Pitts and wife Sharon of Newfield, Troy Pitts and wife Tinique of Woolwich Twp. and Traci Pitts-Byrd and husband Benjamin of Fairfield Twp., 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven children, Sheila, Thomas, Harvey, Terry, Paula, Margaret and Andrew Benjamin; two brothers, Frank and Leon Pierce and son-in-law, Robert Pietrowski. Funeral services will be held at St. John United Methodist Church, 680 Fordville Road, Fairfield Twp. on Saturday, September 3rd at 12 Noon. Friends will be received at the church from 10 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services at the church. Interment will take place at Gouldtown Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp.
