Obituary of Contella Dean

Contella Dean, 85, of Bridgeton died surrounded by her family on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the home of her daughter following an extended illness. Contella was born in Somerville, TN to the late Sheppard Springfield and Seellie Dean Pierce. In 1954, she had moved to Bridgeton where she was a resident for the rest of her life. Prior to her retirement, Contella had worked in the housekeeping department at Meridian Nursing Home in Millville for about five years. She had been previously employed at Owens Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton for over 20 years until the plant closed. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Bridgeton. In her free time, she enjoyed visiting casinos, shopping and spending time with her family. She is survived by; two daughters, Brenda Dean Price of Bridgeton and Doreen Dean Carter and her husband, Sharpie of Port Norris; a step-son, Curtis Joynes and his wife, Caroline of Bridgeton; two grandchildren, Dorenda Dean of Port Norris and Shalomb Dean of Bridgeton; four great-grandchildren, Darian Surrency, Elijah Dean, Shalomb Dean, Jr. and Keaŕra Dean and a great-great-grandson, Jayceon Surrency. She was preceded in death by; her long time companion, Herman Sheppard; her sister, Joe-Ella Woods; two grandchildren, Delphene Dean and Olympia Dean and a great grandson, Keon Dean. Funeral services will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 90 Matthew Brown Way, Bridgeton on Saturday, August 27th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
