John “Jake” A. Wolbert, 79, of Fairton died on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at his home surrounded by his children and their mother following a brief illness. Jake was born in Bridgeton to the late Edgar S. Wolbert and Dorothy Ireland Wolbert. He had been a Fairton resident all of his life. Prior to his illness, Jake had been employed by Sheppard Bus Co. as a bus aide and formerly a bus driver for over 10 years. Before that, he had worked as an electromechanic at Owens Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton for 31 years and Durrand Glass Co. in Millville for a few years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Medal of Merit. He was a member of Fairton Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Bridgeton Post 95. He had also served as a volunteer firefighter at the Fairton Fire Department Station 16. In his free time, Jake meticulously cared for his lawn. In his younger years, he had owned a fishing boat. He is survived by; his children, Carol Halter and her husband, Glen of Pittsgrove, Tina Manno-Truitt and her husband, Craig of Rosenhayn and John Wolbert, Jr. of Deerfield Twp.; five grandchildren, Salvatore Manno and his wife Kristyn, Amanda Martinez, Dominick Manno, Timothy Halter and Jacob Halter; two great-grandchildren, Jayden Martinez and Luka Manno; two sisters, Suzanne Veschi of Fairton and Vera “Sis” Limmerman of Millville; his former wife, Macil “Midge” Wolbert of Deerfield Twp.; an aunt, Patricia Wolbert of Hopewell Twp. and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. He was preceded in death by two brothers, E. Melvin Wolbert and Robert Wolbert. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Thursday, August 4th at 10 AM. Interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, August 3rd from 6 PM to 8 PM and Thursday morning from 9 AM to 10 AM prior to the services.
