Obituary of John L. Wiltshire, Sr.

John L. Wiltshire, Sr., 92 of Bridgeton died on Monday, June 27th, at Lincoln Specialty Care in Vineland following an extended illness. Born in Manchester, Jamaica to the late Curtis D. Wiltshire and Ida Gibson Wiltshire, he was the wife of the late Thelma Green Wiltshire. John had lived in the Bridgeton area since 1943 and prior to that he had resided in Jamaica. Prior to his retirement, John had worked for Owens Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton for over 40 years. He had also worked for South Jersey Hospitals-Bridgeton in the dietary department for over 10 years and the Bridgeton Board of Education where he delivered projector reels to the various schools in the district. In his free time, he enjoyed doing yard work and singing in the men’s choir. He was a very hardworking man. John was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Bridgeton. He is survived by; a brother, Verold Wiltshire of NY; three granddaughters, Shannon Wiltshire, Brandi Murray and Lesly-john Wiltshire; a grandson, Zachary Wiltshire; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Wiltshire; seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and a host of other family members. Besides his wife, Thelma, he was preceded in death by; a son, John L. Wiltshire, Jr. and five sisters, Louise Levi, Ivy Anderson, Gwen Fisher, Daisy Levy and Evelyn Vaughn. Funeral services will be held on at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Saturday, July 2nd at 12 Noon. Interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services.
