Michael Bernell Burrus, age 48, of Upper Deerfield Township passed away at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia following an extended illness.
An Upper Deerfield Township resident for most of his life, he was born in Brooklyn, NY to Thomas Burrus Jr. and Mary E. Burrus on July 7, 1963 and was the husband of Gina Newman Burrus. Michael attended the Seabrook school system and graduated from Cumberland Regional High School in 1981. He also attended Southern Vermont College in Buffalo, NY and Cumberland County College majoring in Criminal Justice.
He had worked for Job Corp. in Bennington, N.Y. and with the former Upper Deerfield Township Police Department for two years. After the police station closed its doors, Michael joined the National Guard where he served for two years, then joined the Army where he served for 2 years. After the Army, he enlisted in the Marines where he served for 4 years and was awarded the Rifle Marksman Badge, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was most recently employed as a security supervisor at the Borgata Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City.
In addition to his parents and wife Gina, all of Upper Deerfield Township, he is survived by a son, Michael Thomas Edward Wilson and his wife Princess of Bakersfield, CA; four grandchildren, Jazmine, Imani, Mikaylah, and Michael Jr.; five siblings, Kenneth Burrus and his wife Christine of Atlantic City, Marty M. Burrus of Bridgeton, Donella Burrus of Upper Deerfield Township, Victor T. Burrus of Vineland, Cleopatra Burrus of Seabrook and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 22nd at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. at 11:00 AM. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. Burial will take place at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in Hopewell Township.
