Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
• Elaine Henderson Cortelyou passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2023. Born in Bridgeton, NJ on December 23, 1926, to Alice and Russell Henderson, she was 96 years old. Elaine is survived by her two daughters and their families: Trish Cortelyou-Hamilton and husband John in Atlanta, GA and daughter Jacqueline in Santa Monica, CA; and Jan Cortelyou-Lee, husband David and son Matthew in Raleigh, NC and son Seth in Bellingham, WA. Her family warmly thanks her beloved caregiver and companion Robin, her neighbors, extended family and many friends who made it possible for her to remain at home near her treasured Cohansey River. Elaine’s husband, Frank Cortelyou, passed away in January 2008. They were married for over 55 years. Elaine graduated from Bridgeton High School with the class of 1944. In 1948, she graduated from Hood College in Frederick, MD with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She worked for the Atlantic City Electric Company and taught in the Bridgeton Public Schools. Later she managed the family's tomato and flower business, Cortelyou Greenhouses. She loved cooking – especially with help from her grandchildren, bird watching, visiting with friends, reading, and watching tennis. Elaine’s family invites her friends and extended family to join us for a memorial service at 1 PM on December 16, 2023 pm at the Church of the Resurrection, 1209 Main Street, Millville, NJ 08332. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Cumberland County Library, 800 E. Commerce St, Bridgeton, NJ 08302; or to the Church of the Resurrection.
