James E. Raines, 79, of Upper Deerfield Twp. passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland. Born in Bridgeton to the late Homer Raines and Fannie Ford Raines, he was the husband of Cheryl J. Biddle Raines. James had been a lifetime resident of Upper Deerfield Twp. Prior to retirement, he had worked for the state of New Jersey Department of Transportation as a truck driver and before that he had worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton. In his free time, James enjoyed watching football and baseball and had served as an umpire for local leagues for many years. He is survived by; his wife, Cheryl J. Raines of Upper Deerfield Twp.; two children, Jay E. Raines of Stow Creek Twp. and Julie A. Hamidy of Upper Deerfield Twp.; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by; his son, Jeffrey Raines and three brothers, Doyle Raines, Jack Raines and Bobby Raines. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Wednesday, September 20th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
