Aaron T. “Ernest” Pettit, Sr., 78, of Alloway Township passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at his home under the care of his family and hospice. The husband of Diane Butcher Pettit, he was born in Fairton and was the son of the late Newlin Pettit and Mertie Messeck Pettit. He had been an Alloway Township resident for 20 years and had lived in Bridgeton prior to that. A veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was stationed in Korea. Before his retirement, he had been employed as a mechanic with Bridgeton Travel Trailer in Hopewell Township for many years. He had also previously worked at the Owens-Illinois Glass Company, the Coca Cola Bottling Company and at the Cumberland Amoco service station all in Bridgeton. “Ernie” enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard and was an avid Rock and Roll and Elvis Presley fan. In addition to his wife, Diane, he is survived by his three children, Amy Fote of Millville, Paula DeRosa (Michael) of Alloway Township and Aaron T. Pettit, Jr. of Alloway Township; three grandchildren, Nicole Fote Glaser-Riech (Dan), Kaitlin Pedrick (James) and Isabella Pettit; two sisters, Elaine Middleton of Fairton and Patsy Morris (Bruce) of Millville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Newlin J. Pettit, Jr., Albert B. Pettit, Sr and Mary Linda Hitchner. Graveside funeral services will be held at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, 719 State Highway 45, Pilesgrove on Saturday morning, September 16th at 11:00 AM.
