Jack Burlew, Sr., 89, of Pittsgrove Twp. died on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the NJ Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland following an extended illness.

 

Born in Bridgeton to the late Ervin Burlew and Lillian M. Garvey Burlew, he was the husband of Loreida Malleus Burlew for the past 62 years. Jack was a Bridgeton area resident for most of his life.

 

Prior to his retirement, Jack had worked for Durrand Glass in Millville as a production manager for over 10 years. He had also been previously employed by Owens Illinois Glass in Bridgeton for over 20 years, a job he started a 16 years old. Jack was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. serving during the Korean conflict. He had served from 1951-1953 and had achieved the rank of Sergeant.

 

In his free time, Jack enjoyed singing in many churches and weddings around the area. He also loved ballroom dancing with his wife, Loreida in which they had won several awards. He and his wife had also participated in the Red Stocking Follies and were highly active in musical theater around the area. Jack also was a pilot of his own single engine aircraft and an avid golfer and bowler.

 

Besides his wife, Loreida, he is survived by; his children, Jack Burlew, Jr. and Heidi Grieff and her husband, Joseph both of Upper Deerfield Twp., four grandchildren, Briana Lori Grieff, Spenser Burlew, Sergei Burlew and Frederick Grieff; his siblings, Roy Burlew of GA, Iris Dagastino (Bob) of TX, Mary Puckett of UT and Diane Smith (Jack) of DE and his in-laws, Helgi Viire (Karl) of Upper Deerfield Twp., Alexander Malleus (Trudy) of Upper Deerfield Twp. and Mary Burlew of Bridgeton. Jack was preceded in death by; two siblings, Ervin Burlew and Jesse Burlew; and his in-laws, Betty Burlew, Ann Burlew and Al Puckett.

 

Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUENRAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Tuesday, July 18th at 1 PM. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 12 Noon to 1 PM prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Jack's memory to the Activities Department c/o NJ Veterans Memorial Home, 524 NW Blvd, Vineland, NJ 08360.
