Louis W. Hayes, 72, of Pittsgrove died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at his home under the care of hospice. The husband of Barbara Richards Hayes, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Ordam Hayes and Mildred Bacon Hayes. He had been a Pittsgrove resident since 1979 and had lived in Bridgeton prior to that. Before his retirement, Lou had been a Tree Surgeon by trade and had been employed with Nelson Tree Service in Franklinville. Before that he had worked with Quaker City Tree Service and Asplundh Tree Service. He was a former member of the 5th Ward Athletic Club and Italian American Civic Club in Bridgeton. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed following NASCAR Racing. In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his five sons, Wayne Carter (Sue) of Monroeville, William Wilson (Jackie) of Elmer, David Hayes (Beth) of Pittsgrove, Phillip Hayes (April) of Sweetwater and Mark Hayes (Michelle) of Erial, 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his best friend, Roger Orange of Pittsgrove. He was predeceased by his daughter, Tammie Hayes-Owens, four brothers, James, Edward, Hardy and Alvin Hayes and his sister, Lorraine Peterson. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Wednesday, October 12th at 10 AM. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday evening October 11th from 6 to 8 PM. Interment will take place at Olivet Cemetery in Pittsgrove Twp.
