Obituary of Ronald A. Simmons

Ronald A. Simmons, 72, of Cedarville died Friday, September 16, 2016 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland. Born in Newark, he was the son of the late Arthur F. Simmons and Anna Ouellette Simmons and had been a Cedarville resident for the past 20 years coming to the area from Dumont, NJ. A veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, he served his country in the United States Army being stationed in Japan. A Registered Nurse by profession, he had formerly been employed with Englewood Hospital in Englewood and had also taught science at the middle school level. He was an active volunteer with the Bayshore Project and the Tall Ship, A.J. Merewold along with the Delaware Bay Lighthouse Keepers and Friends organization. He is survived by his companion of 45 years, Mary Ellen Walker of Cedarville; his sister, Lorraine Heck of Ft. Myers, FL, five nieces and one nephew. His Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at the Parish of the Holy Cross-St. Michael’s Church, 367 Main Street, Cedarville on Wednesday, Sept. 21st at 11 AM. Friends will be received at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main Street, Cedarville on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM prior to the services. Interment will take place at Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in Hopewell Township. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in Ronald’s memory be made to the Bayshore Center, 2800 High Street, Port Norris, NJ 08349.
