Velma Brown, 96, of Millville passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at the Bishop McCarthy Center in Vineland. Velma was born in Cumberland, MD to the late William R. Brown and Madeline Hurbert Brown. Growing up in West Virginia, she was a natural caretaker, always helping a neighbor or looking after others’ children. She moved to Millville with her son, Michael, in 1968. Before her retirement in 1984, she had been employed with the Owens Illinois Glass Company for 24 years. In her younger years she was an avid bowler, and her home full of trophies is a testament to her skill. Velma was a chocoholic, who loved Whitman samplers and cherished her daughter-in-law’s baked goods. She had a big heart and was happy to help anyone in the community. She is survived by; her grandchildren, Ashley Yearicks (Jane) and Michael L. Brown, Jr.(Nicole); great granddaughters, Raiden and Braelyn; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by; her parents; a son, Michael L. Brown Sr.; two grandsons, Dwayne Brown and Nelson Brown; two sisters Genevieve Board and Irene Evans; two brothers, Donald L. Brown and William R. Brown; and her daughter-in-law, Lillian Brown. Services were held privately at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
