Joan I. Laning (née Hollingshead), age 89, of Fairfield Township passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The wife of the late J. Milton Laning who died in 2015, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Hollingshead and Gertrude Jewell Hollingshead and was born in Millville. She had been a Fairfield Township resident since 1956 and had lived in Millville prior to that. A dedicated and caring wife and mother, she worked to raise her family and also assisted on the family farm, Laning Brothers Farm in Fairfield Township. In her early years she had also worked for West Company in Millville. Joan was a longtime member of the Fairton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and camping in Florida and Lancaster, Pa. with her husband Milt and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening She is survived by her two sons, John M. Laning, Jr. (Wendy) of Fairfield Township and James K. Laning (Penny) of Fairfield Township; her brother and sister, Theodore Hollingshead and Carol Lomberk; her daughter in law, Debra Laning, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Milton, she was also predeceased by two sons, Richard Wayne Laning and Thomas D. Laning, a granddaughter, Martha M. Laning and a great-granddaughter, Lorelai M. Peterson. Private funeral services will take place at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township at the convenience of the family. The interment will follow the services at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
