


Obituary of Zettie L. Griffin

Zettie L. Griffin was born in Wilkinson County, Georgia, on March 26, 1930, to the late Leola Fordham Rozier and Walter L. Rozier. She was raised in Dublin, Georgia, and was the eldest of five siblings. Zettie attended school in Dublin, Georgia, and Florida.
She married James Maddox on April 21, 1947, and they had two children: Willia (Maddox) Donaldson and Elmarie (Maddox) Thomas. On June 30, 1956, Zettie married James L. Griffin, and they had four children: Herman L. Griffin, Bettye Louise (Griffin) Staples, Jacquetta (Griffin) Rawls, Geneva Griffin, and Ceolies Redding, Shari Gullatt. Zettie was also a stepmother to eight children: Ethel Small, Charles Maddox, Janice Price, James Randazzo, Colleen (Randazzo) Satterfield, Katheleen (Randazzo) Johnson, Gina (Randazzo) Dawkins, and Roxanne Randazzo.
Zettie was a loving and caring grandmother of 41, great-grandmother of 69, great-great-grandmother of 44, and great-great-great-grandmother of 3. She held many jobs throughout the years. She harvested various crops in the fields. She also worked shucking oysters. She was employed for 31 years at Owens Illinois in Bridgeton and North Bergen, New Jersey, and for 8 years at Kerr Glass in Millville, New Jersey.
Ms. Skeet, affectionately known to many, cherished staying connected with her family and friends. She was a superb cook, renowned for her pound cake. A dedicated member of her lodge, she achieved the esteemed title of Worthy Matron of the Lowe Valley Chapter #4, Order of Eastern Stars (OES), and Associate Matron, St. Johns Grand Lodge National Order. She served as chairperson of the Steward Board and Pastor Steward for over 30 years at Greater St. Augustine AME Zion Church in Bridgeton, NJ.
She lived by the motto, "If I can help someone as I pass along the way, then my living has not been in vain."
She is survived by; two daughters, Jacquetta (Kenneth) Rawls of Sicklerville and Shari Gullatt of Detroit; one sister, Ola M. Scott; three sisters-in-law, Viola Rozier, Barbara Jane Johnson and Roberta Rozier; a nephew-son, Ceolies (Joy) Redding; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; two godchildren, Danny Bell Bryant and Kim Jamieson; as well as nieces, nephews, family and friends. A special thank you is extended to her caregiver, Desa Williams.
She was predeceased by; her mother, Leola Rozier; father, Walter L. Rozier; daughters, Willia M. Donaldson, Elmarie Thomas, Bettye Griffin-Staples and Geneva Griffin; son, Herman Griffin; stepdaughters, Janice Price and Kathleen Johnson; stepson, James Randazzo; brothers, Claude Rozier, Leonard Owens and Walter Rozier Jr.; sister, Ruby Braziel; grandsons, Curtis Donaldson III, Dwayne Robinson, Joshua Smith and Raymond Allen; granddaughters, Tara Robinson and Chardae' Donaldson; and her best friend of 60 years, Rosie May Smith.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 28th at 11 AM at the Greater St. Augustine AME Zion Church, 410 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the church from 9AM to 11AM prior to the service. Interment will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp.
