Obituary of Linda D. Shaw

Please share a memory of Linda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Linda D. Shaw (nee Vineyard), was born on January 24, 1949 in Monessen, Pa. She was a wife, mother, teacher, and friend to many, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, February 2, 2025. She was a life-long resident of the Bridgeton area and lived a simple yet impactful life, leaving a legacy of love and service that will be cherished by all who knew her. Linda's life was a testament to her dedication to others. From her high school days at Bridgeton High School, where she was a top academic student, musician (playing cello, organ, and piano) and cheerleader, to her long career as an educator and community leader, she consistently put the needs of others before her own. It was at Bridgeton High that she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Bob, the football player. In 1967, they graduated together and married soon after. They were married over 55 years. Linda went on to coach the Bridgeton High School cheerleading squad for many years. A Summa cum laude graduate of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, she was a lifelong member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She then embarked on a distinguished career of 36 years with the Bridgeton School District, serving as both a teacher and a facilitator. A passionate advocate for arts education, Linda researched its importance and worked tirelessly to provide arts programs and opportunities for her students, even collaborating with the Champions of Change:The Impact of the Arts on Learning initiative. She was an active member of the Bridgeton Education Association and NJEA, and her dedication to her students earned her numerous accolades, like the New Jersey’s Governor’s Prestigious Teacher of the Year Award in 1993. Beyond the classroom, Linda and her husband were actively involved in the community, contributing to projects like the Tricentennial Celebration and the construction of the Swedish Village. They were also very active in being Civil War Reenactors for the 14th Brooklyn Red Legged Devils, specifically representing a husband and a wife of that time period. She and Bob were married in St. John's Lutheran Church on Giles Street, Bridgeton, and for years Linda was a Sunday School teacher and shared her musical talents by playing the organ for the Sunday church services and singing in the choir. After retiring from teaching, Linda became the Director and then Board Vice President of All That Dance Studio, a role she held for 24 years. She loved all of the families and the dancers and treated everyone like family. She was the welcoming voice on the phone, the warm smile at the front desk, and the driving force behind the studio's success. Deeply committed to making dance accessible to all, Linda wrote numerous grants, enabling students from all backgrounds to participate in dance programs, regardless of their financial circumstances. This passion stemmed from her own childhood dream of dancing, which her family could not afford. She loved her family and always put them all first. She deeply loved her husband, two daughters and all of her fur babies with all of her heart. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, dancing, swimming in her inground pool, ice skating, gardening, sitting on her back deck watching sunsets, traveling (all of the East Coast, most of the middle states, Las Vegas Nevada, San Diego California, Scottsdale Arizona, Canada, and the Bahamas), and watching college and NFL football with her husband. Go EAGLES! Linda's life was an inspiration to all who knew her. She faced life's challenges with remarkable strength and positivity. She lived with lipedema and, following her second COVID-19 vaccination, developed severe lymphedema in her legs. Despite these health challenges, she maintained a vibrant spirit and a passion for life. Her passion for dance was a testament to her determination and her unwavering belief in the power of positivity. Her courage and grace will be deeply missed. Linda was called home to the Lord on Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2025. We find comfort in knowing she is now dancing in heaven with new legs, reunited with family, friends, and her beloved dog, Holly. While her absence leaves a void in our hearts, we rejoice in her peace and freedom from the physical burdens she carried. She is survived by her husband: Robert N. Shaw, two daughters: Jennifer L. Shaw and Meredith A. Shaw, her favorite son-in-law: Shawn C. Seay, her brother: Frederick A. Vineyard III. (Sandy), nephew: Stephan Vineyard, nephew: Tom Cure (Gina), niece: Jackie Cure, nephew: John Cure, brother-in-law: J. Elliott Pettit, nephew: Tommy B. Wood, Jr. (Shannon Wood) and great niece: Ryleigh Jo Wood. She was preceded in death by her father: Frederick A. Vineyard Jr., her mother: Lois Vineyard (nee Rohland), her sister: Josephine (Jodi) Pettit, and her favorite dog: Holly. Lovingly submitted by the family.
