Margaret Maxanne Smith, age 62, of Bridgeton, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Cooper Medical Center in Camden, NJ, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 27, 1960, in Bridgeton, daughter of Elsie I. (Girock) Smith, and the late Jack E. Smith. Born and raised in Hopewell Township, Margaret attended Bridgeton High School and was transferred to Cumberland Regional High School and was among the first graduating class of 1978. She worked for Leone Industries for over 15 years in Quality Control and as a Palletizer Operator. She was also employed at Pat’s Pizzeria in Salem for several years, where she met and assisted dozens of people in the community. Margaret took pleasure in the simple things of life. She was most content being around her family and her four-legged fur baby, princess; sharing a good meal, tending her garden and enjoying her grandchildren and their activities. Her contagious laugh and smile will be forever missed by her family and those she held dear. In addition to her father, Margaret was preceded in death by her life partner, Luis Vargas; her son, Richard B. Richey; and her nephew, Jerry W. Smith. She is survived by her son, Steven K. Richey of Bridgeton; her daughter, Christina A. Jacquet (Michael) of Millville; her mother, Elsie I. Smith (Earl Gandy), of Bridgeton; her beloved grandchildren, of whom she was so proud: Deanna Richey, Reed Richey, Gabriella, Juliana and Michael Jacquet Jr.; her brother, Lee R. Smith (Linda) of Bridgeton; her sisters, Jacqueline M. Rice (Robert Brown) of Clayton, AL, Shawn M. Harris (John) of Milford, DE; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Final care has been entrusted to Padgett Funeral Home, Bridgeton NJ. A visitation will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp., on Friday, May 26th from 9 AM to 10:30 AM. Following the visitation, the Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at the Parish of the Holy Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, 46 Central Ave. Bridgeton, NJ. Inurnment will take place privately at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Twp. at a later date.
