Christine DeShields was born 3/19/31. She departed this life on 1/27/22. She was educated in the Gordon, GA public School system and graduated Valedictorian of the class of 1949. She and her family moved to Bridgeton, NJ, that same year. She Graduated again from the Bridgeton High School in 1951. She and her family joined St Augustine AME Zion church in 1949 and was a member of the choir, was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Stewardess board. She met and married the love of her life, Rev Isaac DeShields in 1953 and from that union, 6 children were born. She was a member of the Wesley Memorial AME Zion church, where her husband was founder and pastor. She was first lady and was a member of the choir and the Deaconess board. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 68 years, Rev. Isaac DeShields, her children, Vanessa (Arnett) Logan, Rev. W. Wayne DeShields, Deborah, Elliott (Vivian) and Belinda Holloway (Kevin), 18 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, Daughter in law, Deborah DeShields, Sister in Law, Ida Lowe and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 5th at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 90 Matthew Brown Way, Bridgeton at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
