Thomas A. Welden, Sr., 85, of Dividing Creek passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 at his home. Born in Bivalve, he was a Dividing Creek resident most of his life and was the son of the late Paul Layton and Edna B. Layton and the husband of Dorothy L. Welden. Tom had retired in 1999 from the U.S. Silica Sand Company where he had been employed for 45 years. A member of the Dividing Creek United Methodist Church, he had served as Assistant Chaplin of the Cumberland County Firefighters Association, Chaplin of the Dividing Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Chaplin of the Mauricetown Gun Club and a member of the Cumberland County Firefighters Association and the NJ State Firefighters Association. In addition to his wife Dot, he is survived by three sons, Thomas A. Welden, Jr. of Dividing Creek, Teddy E. Welden of Dividing Creek and Michael J, Welden of Millville, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lynda L. Welden, four brothers, Harry P. Layton, Jr., Luther, Fenlon and George Layton and a sister Pauline Fisher. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 15th at 11 AM at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday evening, September 14th from 6 to 8 PM and on Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 AM prior to the services.
