Johnnie M. “the Tweeter” Ball, 85, of Port Norris passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland. Born in Edwardsville, VA to the late Floyd Ball and Margaret Campbell Ball, he was the husband of the late Dolores M. Fields Ball. Johnnie was raised in the Washington, D.C. area by his paternal aunt and uncle Evelyn and Charles Milner. He then moved to Chrisfield, MD in the mid 1940’s and in 1950 he became a resident of Port Norris where he lived most of his life. Prior to his retirement in 1991, Johnnie had worked as a shift supervisor at West Company in Millville for over 20 years. He had also worked as an oysterman for several area seafood companies. Johnnie was a Marksman in the United States Army serving during the Korean conflict where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He is survived by nine children, Sara Mae Wilson of Seabrook, Denise Artis of Vineland, Johnnie M. Ball, Jr. of Port Norris, Marguerite Ball of Port Norris, James M. Ball of Marietta, GA, Renee’ Williams of Millville, Cheri Mitchell of Accokeek, MD, Kim Ball of Vineland and Jeffrey Ball, Sr. of Corbin City; a brother, Armstead Ball of Baltimore; a sister, Margaret Wiggins of Baltimore; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Ball and Maxine Ball of Baltimore; his first cousins, Bertha Carson of Suitland, MD, Margaret Lee of Chicago and Rasheedah Salaheddin of Temple Hills, MD; 28 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his twin sons; four brothers, Ernest, Grayson, Harrison and Linwood Ball; a sister, Joyce Ellerbe; a granddaughter, Keisha Artis; two grandsons, Shawn Michael Ball and Steven Sattler and a first cousin, Agnes Karim. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Saturday, August 22nd at 1 PM. Interment will take place at Halleyville Methodist Cemetery in Commercial Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11 AM to 1 PM prior to the services.
