Obituary of Robert E. Munson

Robert E. Munson, 81, of Newport died Thursday evening, September 11, 2014 at his home under the care of Hospice. A Downe Township resident for 34 years, he was born in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of the late James Munson and Margaret Dougall Munson and the husband of Jean Hall Munson. Before moving to the Newport area he was a resident of Moylan, PA. Mr. Munson retired to the area to become a commercial fisherman and operate his Christmas Tree Farm in Newport. He had previously been employed as an Aquatic Consulting Engineer with United Engineers and Constructors in Philadelphia. Locally he had served on the Cumberland County Board of Agriculture and on the Fisherman’s Council. During the Cold War Era he had served his country as a submariner in the United States Navy. In addition to his wife Jean, he is survived by his daughter, Laurel Lowe (James) of St. Louis, MO; his son, Craig Munson (Christine) of Guthriesville, PA, his five beloved grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, James Munson. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main Street, Cedarville on Thursday, Sept. 18th at 11 AM. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 AM prior to the services. Cremation and inurnment will take place at Laurel Lawn Crematory in Upper Deerfield Twp. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in Mr. Munson’s memory be made to the Cedarville Presbyterian Church, American Cancer Society or Lawrence Township EMS.
