Leaythaner Segers, affectionately called Nate quietly slipped away into eternal rest on April 14, 2018 at 1:17 a.m. at South Jersey Extended Care located in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He was born August 10, 1940 in Brooklyn New York.

 

He was the youngest of seven children of the Late Grant Segers and Katie Howard Segers. At an early age he received the foundation of his Christian training from his Godly parents which inspired him to become active in his church. His parents moved briefly to Charlotte North Carolina in 1929; where they joined the United House of Prayer for all People. Returning back north; his mother Katie Segers, upon finding no branch of the United House of Prayer, She and the Segers family set up church services in their living room and helped in establishing the United House of Prayer in Jamaica N.Y. to which the beautiful edifice stands today. Nate loved music; he was a bugle boy and played on the original Humming Birds band in the House of Prayer.

 

Leaythaner was educated in the New York public schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson H.S. were he trained as a master mechanic. Nate loved working on cars and would build new engines or restore body work to a showroom finish. He worked for Ron’s Transportation in Jamaica New York for many years. Most recently, Leaythaner had been employed by the Bridgeton Board of Education in the maintenance department, Seabrook Brothers and Sons as a truck driver and in the restaurants at Bally's Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. He was united in wedlock to Isabel Wells of Rock Hill S.C. and from this union, beautiful children was born. In his free time he enjoyed watching movies, traveling with his family and fishing.

 

Nate was the last uncle of the Segers family. He was proceeded in death by two brothers, Lee Grant and Emmanuel Segers; and Four sisters; Lovina, Katie, Katherine and Gwendolyn.

He leaves to cherish his memory 6 sons, Raymond (Andrea) Segers of North Babylon, New York; Ronald Segers of Peckille, Pennsylvania; Michael (Regale) Segers of Queens, New York; Joseph Segers of N.Y. New York; Elder. Adrian Segers of Charlotte North Carolina and Jerome Wilson of Bridgeton New Jersey. Daughters Gwendolyn Segers of Charlotte North Carolina and Ida Morales of Bridgeton, New Jersey. A special friend Sandra Calvin of Bridgeton, New Jersey. A special cousin, Minnie Segers of Bridgeton, New Jersey; Denise Matthews who he affectionately called his sister and God-Children Key’un and Kiearra Segers of Bridgeton, New Jersey. Thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nephews, nieces, cousins, church family; and a host of friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Friday, April 20th at 3 PM. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 PM to 3 PM prior to the service. Written condolences can be sent to the family through the funeral home website at www.padgettfuneralhomes.com.
