Gwendolyn Harris, 83, of South Plainfield passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison Twp. following a brief illness.

 

Born in Miami, FL to the late Julius Johnson and Sheila Massey Johnson, she was the wife of the late Norman Harris, Sr. Gwendolyn moved to Bridgeton in the mid 1950's and moved to the Plainfield/South Plainfield area in 1995 where she had lived for the rest of her life.

 

Gwendolyn had worked for the City of Newark as a social worker for over 30 years. She was a member of Faith Fellowship Church in Sayreville for many years. In her free time, Gwendolyn enjoyed traveling and spending time at her church.

 

She is survived by; four children, Carolyn Harris of Miami, FL, Norman Harris, Jr. of Newark, Marcia Harris of Alabama and Barbara Gay Harris of Miami, FL; a sister, Irene Pryor of Miami, FL; 13 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and other family members. She was preceded in death by; her husband, Norman Harris, Sr. and a sister, Myrtis Ambrister.

 

Funeral services will be held at Faith Fellowship Ministries World Outreach Center, 2707 Main Street Extension, Sayreville, NJ 08872 on Thursday, March 1st at 12 PM. Friends will be received at the church from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services. Interment will take place privately at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Hopewell Twp. at a later time.
