Obituary of Linda E. Runyon

Please share a memory of Linda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Linda Elizabeth Runyon, 79, of Woodstown, NJ, passed away at Hospital on March 12, 2017, after a long illness. Linda was born on January 4, 1938 in Plainfield, NJ, to Paul A. and Ruth E. (Best) Runyon. Her parents and son-in-law, Charles W. Cramer, predeceased her.

Linda was raised in Plainfield and Watchung, NJ. She spent summers at her parents’ camp in Indian Lake, NY; this wilderness setting would become the background for her own wilderness experiences homesteading in the Adirondacks. Linda attended high school in North Plainfield, NJ, and graduated from Monmouth College in Long Branch, NJ, with a RN Nursing degree. For thirteen years, she and her son Todd, and her second husband Ken Heitz lived without indoor plumbing, electricity or running water. These experiences afforded Linda the knowledge to write a number of books on wild foods and survival. Using her passion for the outdoors and survival topics she lectured nationally.

Linda is survived by three children: Eric P. (Rosary) Conover, Kim L. (Mark) Glaspey, and Todd D. (Gary) Conover; four grandchildren: Jason R. (Melissa) Cramer, Lee W. (Nikki) Cramer, Ceri Boersman, and Alec (Molly) Conover; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul A. (Judith) Runyon; a niece Aimee Runyon and nephew Matthew (Victoria) Runyon

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Twp. Contributions in Linda’s memory can be made to the Vasculitis Foundation Research Foundation, PO Box 28660, Kansas City, MO 64188, phone: (816) 436-8211.
