Adeline (Weence) Walker Stannard of Vineland died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at her home following a one year period of declining health. Born in Glendale, CA on April 18, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Ronald Ogg Walker and Avery Blake Walker. Her father was a petroleum engineer and she spent much of her childhood in Houma, LA, Montclair, NJ and Vernal, UT. She attended St. Margaret's School in Waterbury, CT and Stanford University where she met her husband, James H. Stannard, Jr. Adeline married James on June 8, 1950 in San Raphael, CA. They lived in Mill Valley and San Raphael, CA until 1973 when they moved to Basking Ridge, NJ. In 1996 they moved to Lawrenceville, GA and then moved to Vineland in 2003. While living in Mill Valley she contracted Polio and she was among the few survivors of the "Iron Lung". Through her own perseverance, she regained her ability to breathe and walk on her own. She went on to bear four more children and raise all five of her children. In later years, the post-polio syndrome took its toll and she became less mobile and finally bed-ridden. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, James W. Stannard of Pitttsgrove and Ronald W. Stannard of Nassau, NY; three daughters, Carol Albert of Scotch Plains, Sarah Elizabeth (Beth) Luebbers of Arnold, MO, Virginia Frances (Daisy) Cameron of Marlboro, CT, 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and three nephews. She was predeceased by her only sister, Christine W. Paisley. The reading of the Burial Office and Requiem Eucharist will be held at St. Andrews's Episcopal Church, 186 East Commerce Street, Bridgeton on Wednesday, April 18th at 10 AM. Burial will take place at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township. A visitation will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in Mrs. Stannard's memory be made to the March of Dimes, 220 White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ 08106.
