Obituary of Roland P. Carroll

Please share a memory of Roland to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roland Park Carroll was born on July 8, 1946 to Robert and Elizabeth (Davis) Carroll in Dade County, FL but was a resident of Bridgeton, NJ living and working there for the majority of his life. He graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1965 and married his childhood friend Georgia Lee Glanville in 1966. They raised 3 children, Rodney, Renee, and Carmela and they remained together until her death in 2002. He was remarried in 2003 to Mary Ellen Comer and they enjoyed a happy and satisfying life until his death. The most important day of Roland’s life was August 26, 1966 when he was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness. For the next 50 years he would serve in the Downtown Bridgeton Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and set a fine example of faith, love, hope, and endurance. Appointed as a congregation elder in 1974, Roland took the privilege seriously and he worked tirelessly in behalf of the congregation, becoming a skilled teacher and a haven of support and encouragement. Roland really loved people; he was a deeply caring and empathetic person. His warm, witty, engaging, fatherly personality combined with his deep understanding of God’s Word was a comfort to so many in the congregation, at work, at home, and in the door to door field ministry. Roland was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father and friend---a true friend to so many because of his deep love for the truth, Jehovah God, and people. He touched the lives and hearts of many people and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Carroll, son Rodney Carroll, daughters Renee and Carmela Carroll, stepson William Comer, brothers Sumblar Carroll (Diane), Robert Carroll Jr., and three sisters Robbie Codner (Jerry), Betty Brunson, and Priscilla Young (Melvin). He was predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth Comer (Maceo), Ruth Carroll, and Fannie Davis (Tommy) and his stepdaughter Mary Ann Comer. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends will cherish his memory.
