Benny H. Hawkins, 72, of Upper Deerfield Twp. died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland. Born in Litwar, W. VA to the late Harold M. Hawkins and Mae Marie Honaker Hawkins, he was the husband of Carolyn Ford Hawkins. Benny had lived in Upper Deerfield Twp. for the past 50 years and prior to that in W. VA. A Veteran, he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Before his retirement, he had been employed for over 20 years as a heavy equipment operator with South State construction in Bridgeton. Benny was an avid camper and fisherman who loved his family dearly. He and his wife would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in June. Besides his wife Carolyn, he is survived by a son, Benjamin A. Green and his wife, Laura of Upper Deerfield Twp.; four grandchildren, Aaron M. Woody (Tiffany), Crystal A. Green, Timothy Hawkins and Sean Donaghy; three great-grandchildren, Sophia LeAnn, Sophia Grace and Izabella Marie; John “Beau” Hitchner, Jr. and his daughter Ariel who he treated as his son and granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brother and sister, Bob and Betty Fowler of TN, who he looked forward to talking to every Sunday evening on the phone. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Twp.
